word from the guymons

Really not much to say from this part of the world, I just wanted to bump Jill's entry. And I also have made a goal to make regular entries, I think it is the best way to get to know each other, and I want other piacitelli family bloggers to feel that they can make the big step and make an entry. who is this "budgeting" user anyhow. I think its creepy. This week the boys and I have been doing our typical hanging out. On monday clint made a bookcase/dollhouse for Rubys room and Isaiah and I painted it the next day. It was big for us. We, clint and I also recieved callings to the boy scouts. That should give you some good blogs to look forward to. I also went to the dr. this week. Im at thirty weeks, only 12 more if all goes well. Oh boy, why does pregnancy have to take so long, but I am not ready to take on three anyhow. Alrighty then, that is the week from the guymons.

Bumping Jeff's Important and Well Written Blog

I'm sorry to do it, but I guess I'm bumping Jeff's geneological blog entry. It's a well written and exciting one, with real substance. I'm telling you, you aren't going to be getting that from me in this here entry. So skip it. I wouldn't be writing, except I swore to do it as my Family Home Evening activity. So, I am sitting here hurrying to squeeze some news in before my computer battery dies.

I've been called to work with the Young Women's in my ward. This is a first for me, thought I suppose being a seminary teacher in my last ward counted as "working with the youth". This was last week, and I have since attended an activity where we made our own Mormon Ad posters (the entry from my table: "Modesty: Keep it Under Cover" submitted by my a mix of Beehives, a Laurel, and a Deacon who drew the spy like motif) and I taught on Sunday. It was a tricky lesson, as it was largely focused on the roles of wife and mother. I feel about as distant from those roles and I hope these young women do at this point. I was a bit intimidated by the content, but learned some interesting things. One area of particular interest to me (i.e. I thought about it more in sacrament meeting) was how easy it is in a competitive world to really understand complimentary relationships - that seperate can still be equal. This can be tricky, and I think the influence of the outside world easily trickles into the our attitudes about gospel principles, but there is nowhere that this idea is taught better than in the gospel.

Other news: Break Away got a little bit of ink in USA Today and my name was attached to it. This served to secure one donor: dad. I'm moving into the mansion at the end of this week - beginning of next. I get to see Matt and Andy and the kids this weekend down in Tampa. I'm excited about that. Torah Bright, aforementioned snowboarder, took 5th in the Olympics. Cammi Granato was vindicated, in a sort of twisted way, by the US Women's Hockey Team's 3rd place finish. Bode Miller and others have had to eat a little bit of humble pie. Oh Olympics, you enchant me.

Viva Italia!

Here she is, the mother of our Grand/Great Giovanni(John) Piacitelli who came over from Italy on the boat; Filomena DeFilipis
It is not uncommon for me to have patients with Italian ancestry at the hospital. Recently I had one that made me think of our family's ancestors. Because of my conversation with him and his family about Italy and the arrival of his family in America, I spoke with Dan Piacitelli. Dan sent me the above picture and also sent to me the genelogical chart/information that he has from this part of our family. It is some neat stuff. If you'ld like a copy of it Dan or myself will email a copy to you. In any case, you have a photo of the likeness of one of our ancestors. I understand that she lived until she was about 100 years old. We have some of the long living genes in our family line! Dan and I also have spoken of making a family history trip to Italy sometime, possibly next year. If you're interested, we'd like to have you along, let us know. Unfortunately it is a little late to see this years Winter Olymic games, but there is still plenty to do and see there for us.
Viva Italia!

Let it SNOW!

So here it is: in Baltimore the 'Nor-Easter' of '06 hit here this weekend with reports of 10" to 16" depending upon where you are and who did the measurements. Provided here is some of the photographic evidence of what happened to my neighborhood. No big deal. Church was canceled giving my roomates and I plenty of time to dig out of it. Don't worry about us missing church, we'll make it up. Makeup for snow days is also known as General Conference. Held on TWO Saturdays a year for a total of 12 hours, it is equal to four 'standard Sunday Meeting blocks' of 3 hours each. When in Utah- most of my life granted, Church was canceled only once. This was in Logan during a blizzard. In Baltimore, we've used snow days every winter since I've been here(starting in '01). This was the 2nd storm this winter. Nice.
After diging out photo:

And, Here is a photo of Saturday night:
A group date to G&M, for the best crab cakes in Baltimore(as Dad can witness- he ate here). Across from me sits Amber, my date. She is from Utah and at UofM going to school as a nurse practitioner.

What Could Have Been

I'm posting this picture of Danny Kourianos and I because it looks like what would have happened if Danny and I would have only been encouraged in our dreams to marry, move to New York, and write for David Letterman. This was a picture we took in Central Park on one of the nicest days recorded. I'll try to also post a picture of the roller derby club that we could not tear our eyes away from. They were magically and simply hypnotic.

A few shout outs: To Sister Gladys Knight for winning the Grammy for best Gospel Album. Just to hype mom's taste in music, she sent me this one. If she would have sent me U2's album, I'd think she was really keeping hip. For now, I think she's just in tune with soul music. Also, to my friend Rowena's little sister, Torah Bright, who is a medal hopeful in women's snowboarding. She is from Austrailia, but trains in Utah. Very cool family. So now we know who to cheer for. And watch for Julie Foudy on the color commentating. Ah, the Olympics. How I love thee.

Where in the world?

Hey, check it out. The map with red dots on the right hand side of the blog(you may need to scroll down to see it) is a record of the hits that the family blog has had in the past month. It looks like the biggest following is- not suprisingly- from Arizona, Florida and Maryland. We have a some from various parts of the US, a couple of Canadian hits and some from the Philipines and Turkey(?). Enjoy.

Just a weekly Guymon update

I really just wanted to pracitce posting a picture, so I could tell mom and becki how easy it is. This is the one that came up. I think you all should appreciate Clint's Napoleon outfit. The other kids are our friends the Cheney kids. Isaiah plans to marry Mazzy (the little snow white)
Not a big week around here, though we are adding some activity as I begin my bi-weekly prenatal visits to the dr. The boys find it exciting to watch "what a good girl I am" as I get my blood drawn. We have also ventured out on walks further than the post box, now heading to some feilds about 3/4 of a mile away, and the park about a mile away. Isaiah is loving riding his bike in more than circles (like he had to at our old apartment) and the route to the park includes some hills that he likes to creep up and cruise down. The adventures of mason are basically the same as always, he had his public vomit yesterday at the trailer they call our library. I am amazed that in the two years we have been dealing with this, this is the first to be viewed in public. I am sure that the teenager watching it unfold was grossed out. Isaiah just sat down and read a book while I hauled out of the trailer onto the porch to let him finish the "gastric empting" process. We took of his drenched shirt and returned to look for and returned to the trailer to go about our buisness of looking for and checking out books. Those of you who have experienced this first hand will appreciate this experience, since it is what we have lived in fear of everytime we are out with Mason. it wasn' t as bad as I had imagined.
Clint has gone off the swing shift of alternating a three day 12 hour work day week with a four day 12 hour work day week and gone to the normal 5 day a week thing. We aren't sure how we like that yet, though it is nice to have him home for dinner. We went to a superbowl party at his bosses house the other day and I enjoyed meeting some of the people he works with.
Also on sunday we had regional conference, its done by video from salt lake now, kinda cool. Anyhow Pres. Monson was in rare form, telling the usual stories, but pulling off some great one liners. I was amazed. A good week here, we miss you all. Love the Guymons

I'm moving into a Mansion

I'm moving into a mansion! Remember the game we would play in church sometimes, where you would write M.A.S.H and depending on the number you had to count (based on the hypnotic circle drawing before you proclaim "Stop!"), you'd find out if your destiny was to live in a mansion, an apartment (or attic - depending on where the DOW was at that Sunday), a shack, or a house. Well, to all the siblings that had a laugh when I landed on mansoin and said it would never happen...

It might not technically be a mansion, in fact it is a townhouse. But after living in a one bedrooom apartment and asking not to have visitors for lack of seating, it is the biggest living space I think I could handle without a maid.

So I'll be moving again, come February 25th. A small, young family from my ward is moving to Hawaii to do an internship for 6 months. They come back literally a week after I'm scheduled to move to Atlanta. Beautiful. They found out about this move just a couple of weeks ago, so have been scrambling to find someone to move into the house that they trusted. After only talking to his wife once in Relief Society, I fit the bill somehow. They have arranged so that I am paying the same in rent, but now living in a mansion. Visitors welcome.

Other than that big news, I'm keeping busy with work and yet to get to Tampa to see Matt and Andrea. My car registration has expired and I've had a hard time getting to where I need to be in order to get what needs to be done during the work day. Maybe I'll pull an illegal weekend. I think that's not uncommon in Florida - it's what Florida is all about!

Such an interesting week in current events. I wake up and listen to the BBC, which right now is all about the riots surrounding the cartoons published re: Mohammed. A shift to NPR brings news of Coretta Scott King's funeral, the proposed budget (reflecting the administrations priorities and the true state of the union), wiretapping, and lobby reform. I'm trying to figure out how my work fits into this world, because I'm sure it does. Sometimes it seems like all the action is happening with the elite power structure, but I don't quite buy it. I'm working on making the grassroot efforts of citizens, the values and ethics cultivated by individuals being the real power structure. It's not as linear of a connection as I'd hope just yet.

Hope all is well with the family this week. Keep posting, even if you think it's mundane (see above). It's interesting to hear all the nuances of growth in the lives of those you love.

Where are Matt and Becki?

I've been wondering about this. Since we haven't see a post from them, I had to go and look. After some web research and found out where Matt has been. Like Jill, Matt travels quite abit too. It appears not only that Matt has documented where he has been, but he also can dance ok too. Go Matt! (follow this link: Where is Matt? a high speed connection works best)
Becki, I'm going to look for you now...
